VAVRINA was a man of many facets, all of which contributed to his artistic talent. His endeavors included working in oils, acrylics, block prints, charcoal, pencils, watercolor and sculpture. He loved classical music, was an avid reader, an inveterate traveler and museum hound. His still-lifes are never still. His seascapes reflect his love of sailing. Vavrina’s forte was his bold use of color, creative composition and strong broad strokes. There is light in everything he painted. He often said he painted only happy pictures. Vavrina lost a life-long battle with diabetes and died in June 2009 at the age of 80
